Definition
The due date is the specific calendar date by which an invoice must be paid. It is calculated from the invoice date and the payment terms, for example an invoice dated June 1 with Net 30 terms has a due date of July 1. Showing the exact due date, not just the term, reduces late payments.
Due date in practice
Always print the due date as a full date on the invoice. Clients should not have to calculate it. Invoicing software does this automatically from the payment terms you choose.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should the due date be on the invoice if I already list Net 30?
Yes. The term tells the client the rule; the due date tells them the day. Including both removes any room for miscalculation and makes reminders unambiguous.
